2008 Florida Legislative Bill Tracker

Welcome to the Legislative Bill Tracker for the Florida Chapter of the Sierra Club. This is where you can learn about the bills we're monitoring, what our positions are on each of them, and what you can do to help us get them passed or defeated.

You can also monitor meetings, and check on bills and calendars by going to the legislative websites - www.flsenate.gov  for the Senate &  www.myfloridahouse.gov for the House.

A few statistics about the legislature:

Of the 120 members of the Florida House of Representatives, 34 are new; 41 are Democrats and 78 are Republicans.  The District 55 seat is vacant due to Rep. Peterman's resignation to accept the Governor's appointment to be Secretary of the Dept of Juvenile Justice.  There will be a special election on April 15 for House District 55 (parts Hillsborough,  Manatee, Pinellas, and Sarasota).  At this point there are three Democratic candidates and one non-party write in.

Of the 40 members of the Florida Senate, 7 are new (of whom 3 are veterans of the House), 26 Republicans and 14 Democrats.

You can track Governor Charlie Crist’s budget items if you click here.  Also see www.flgov.com.
